A long-term networking and exchange programme between artists and cultural operators from the Nordic Region and the African continent, wishing to influence cultural representation on world art scenes.
The programme is lead by the South African organization PACE, accompanied by Co-Executive Directors Nike Jonah (UK) and Erwin Maas (US).
PACE aims to transcend cultural, social, historical, geographical and disciplinary boundaries by increasing the global reach of Africa’s contemporary (performing) arts industry and contributing to the continent’s development of future work. PACE partners with other platforms, festivals and artists to widen the reach of African & African-diasporic cultural products. By facilitating connections across diverse contexts & artistic exchanges, PACE challenges the status quo of the discourse around African/diaspora artistic work & promotes a more equitable representation of creative expression on the global stage.
Involved in the project are also a multitude of partners from the Nordic region and the African continent.
The Pan-African Creative Exchange (PACE), initiated by the Vrystaat Arts Festival, is a biennial arts market and showcase for African & African-diaspora artists, developed for national and international presenters, producers and festival directors, providing the highest quality inter-disciplinary arts product (theatre, dance, music, craft etc) from Africa, to buyers, artists and the general public.
