The cultural sector is often mentioned as an important driver for sustainable development, yet it is rare that ambitions are translated into practice and that artists and cultural operators themselves are involved in defining what this role means.
Central Denmark EU Office, or CDEU, is the office for the whole of Central Denmark in the EU. The office is owned by the Region of Central Denmark, the 19 municipalities in the region, Aarhus University and VIA University College.
The aim of the CDEU is to ensure that Central Jutland derives maximum value from European cooperation. CDEU works for municipal administrations as well as for the region, private companies, research and educational institutions, cultural institutions and other actors in Central Jutland.
With the European Green Deal, EU Member States have committed to reach the goal of climate neutrality by 2050. At the same time, the UN SDGs have given us a common vocabulary and a more holistic understanding of sustainability. The cultural sector is often mentioned as an important driver for sustainable development, yet it is rare that ambitions are put into practice and that artists and cultural operators themselves are involved in defining what this role means.
The aim of the project is therefore to:
– contribute to a better understanding of the unique role and potential of culture in the sustainable development and green transformation of societies
– map out knowledge from existing initiatives and practices in different parts of the Nordic region and Europe
– facilitate new international collaborations and partnerships at local and regional level
Project partners are the Nordic Culture Fund, Central Denmark EU Office (CDEU) (project leader), Oulu City, Västra Götaland Region and a number of Nordic cultural institutions.
