The project “Urgent Situation” promotes horizontal exchange of knowledge, ideas and methods between the creative field and the sustainable tourism industry. The aim is to investigate and convey how artists, architects and other creative actors can play a central role in the development of the tourism sector in a world with a growing focus on the environment, sustainability and local communities.
Through a residency programme, a global network, a publication and a seminar, this project will explore how artists, architects and other creative actors can play a key role in the development of a new kind of tourism industry, that is centered around the environment, sustainability and respect for local communities.
The Norwegian not-for-profit organisation ‘Praksis’, Center for Culture and Knowledge ‘Samong Haven’ in Indonesia, Norwegian architect Don Lawrence and Norwegian Artist Tanja Thorjussen are familiar with working together, as they developed and conducted ‘An Urgent Situation del 1’, which this Globus Call project develops further. For the second round of the project ‘An Urgent Situation del 2’ the partners have advanced the project’s global scope even further by involving a partner from Malaysia Architect Eleena Jamil and from Zambia Lusaaka Centre for Contemporary Art.
PRAKSIS connects diverse artists, thinkers and publics to Norway’s creative ecology via thematic programmes that focus on urgent issues of our time. Dedicated to inclusivity, they seek to inspire and support artistic creation, bringing new creative networks and communities into being.
