Simiyya is a platform for research and cultural production, focusing on the way cultural-geographical contexts impact how technology shapes politics and aesthetics, as well as how to form a future based on new economic and psychic models.
The project will create a platform for research and cultural production that has technopolitics at its core. The project addresses themes such as the mediation of dissent, surveillance economies and the movement of people, information and energy across geopolitical contexts.
The project consists of a broad collaboration of relevant actors and artists from the Middle East, Asia and the Nordic region, led by the four cultural actors Assem Hendawi (EG), Noura Al Khasawneh (JO), Mostafa El Baroody (EG) and Mandus Ridefelt (DK).
Participants in the project from the Middle East are MMAG Foundation (JO), Arab Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF) (EG), Behna El Weklalah (EG), Ranwa Yehia (EG) and Özgün Eylül Isçen (TR). Participants from Asia includes Singapore Biennale (SG) and Bogna Konior (CN). Finally, the Nordic region is represented by danish actors Diakron (DK), Organ of Autonomous Sciences (DK) and Aslak Aamot Helm (DK) as well as Bassam El Baroni from Finland.
The project is lead by a coalition of artists and cultural actors from Jordan, Denmark and Egypt, consisting of artistic lead Mostafa El Baroody; curatorial lead Noura Al Khasawneh; conceptual lead Assem Hendawi; and administrative lead Mandus Ridefelt.
