A/nordi/c – think tank for art and policies was set with basic funding from the Nordic Culture Fund. The think tank worked in 2021-2023 to bring artistic practice and political reality closer together. A summary of the think tank’s knowledge and activities can be found at anordic.org.
a/nordi/c is a Nordic centre and think tank for art and politics. We were set up to bring the practice of the arts and the reality of policy closer together, so that we can help set the direction for future policy in the arts and culture field.
As an extension of the Nordic Culture Fund’s work with the anthology Reflections, in 2020 the Fund initiated the Nordic partnership initiative, which the Board later decided to formalize and establish in the form of a Nordic think tank called a/nordi/c.
For a period of two years 2021-2023, a/nordi/c has been given the opportunity to examine some of the key building blocks of Nordic cultural policy through funding and consultancy assignments. This has been done through forward-looking knowledge development and the facilitation of new and interdisciplinary dialogue spaces for art, culture and politics.
The organisation has engaged a wide range of stakeholders ranging from artists, the creative sector and researchers to cultural writers, art institutions and political players. The aim was to open up the dialogue and knowledge development to new perspectives on art life and cultural policy in the Nordic Region, thus challenging the structures and premises that can stand in the way of creating an open, free and engaged art scene in the Nordic Region.
The partnership between a/nordi/c and the Nordic Culture Fund has taken shape, for example, through trans-Nordic co-operation in arranging a series of cultural policy network meetings across the Nordic region.
In spring 2023, a/nordi/c will finalize its work with an anthology on artistic freedom. Documentation of a/nordi/c’s publications and activities will then be available on anordic.org for a period of three years.
