Freemuse and network partners in Asia, MENA, Africa, the Americas and Europe will build on existing initiatives and experiences in analysing threats to artistic freedom and to improve and develop joint documentation, monitoring and advocacy, nationally, regionally and internationally.
The objective is to strengthen collaborations by understanding the individual partners’ current capacities, focus areas, and strengths as well as the multiple challenges they face.

Restrictions on mobility, access to cultural activities, the right to unionise as well as censorship- and repression of artistic expressions are major factors in restricting the development of creative talents and the economy of cultural industries.
The organization freemuse have worked extensively with questions of artistic freedom, and lack thereof. Their annual report on the state of artistic freedom is frequently referenced in both academic, political and activist contexts. Their work have led them to partneships with organizations of similiar interest, some of which take part in this FORWARD project.
This project seeks to support and expand the existing network, building on Freemuses and its partner organizations’ work. By organizing workshops, the projects will establish toolkits for at-risk artists, organize training the monitoring and documenting violations of artistic freedom, agree on methods and focus:
By asking these questions, the project will develop future initiatives to be implemented in the coming years.
