Narratives of Extraction builds and supports institutional capacity by creating an international know-how exchange platform on extractivism and green transition, as seen through a lens of contemporary art and architecture. Narratives of Extraction intertwines North-South perspectives and experiences with the Ukranian and Georgian contexts. The project is a continuation and expansion of two initial phases.

Narratives of Extraction’s point of departure is the realisation of an urgent need to generate trans-national knowledge production on extractivism and on how the green energy transition entangles local conditions with global needs, as seen from the perspectives and methods of the arts and architecture. Narratives of Extraction seeks to create a common ground fro international cooperation between cultural institutions and actors on artistic and architectural eco-pedagogies related to extraction and destroyed nature and to facilitate exchange on curatorial know-how between the Nordics, South America, Ukraine and Georgia.
The first phase, upon which this project is built, activated a common ground for for artistic interpretations on extraction in a Nordic context. The second phase focused on South America. Now, Narratives of Extraction expands their project to include Ukraine and Georgia, intertwining North-South perspectives and experiences with the contexts of the two countries.
Narratives of Extraction have previously received funding from Globus Opstart for initial phases of the project.
