Riddu Riððu Take Over @ Arctic Sounds encourages intercultural dialogue, supporting Indigenous artists in revitalizing and evolving their cultural heritage. By uniting Sámi and Inuit artists on an international stage, the project aims to amplify Indigenous Arctic voices and reinforce sustainable cultural ties in the region.
The Riddu Riððu Take Over @ Arctic Sounds event celebrates a unique collaboration between two major Arctic festivals, Arctic Sounds and Riddu Riððu, both devoted to promoting Indigenous artists. For Arctic Sounds 2025, Riddu Riððu will curate a day-long program of music and culture, showcasing Sámi artists and collaborations with Inuit artists to create an inspiration-driven, safe space for sharing the voices of Indigenous Arctic cultures. Beyond performances, the event will host knowledge-sharing sessions focused on sustainable cultural initiatives, festival management, and resource-sharing. This project aims to create artistic exchange while strengthening cultural connections in the Arctic. As prominent platforms in the circumpolar festival network, Arctic Sounds and Riddu Riððu hope to reach larger audiences and raise awareness of Indigenous music and culture. Publicity for the event will be extensive, using both festivals’ networks, media channels, and support from other circumpolar organizations, further promoting the importance of Indigenous Arctic heritage.
Riddu Riððu Take Over @ Arctic Sounds has strong Nordic relevance. The project’s vision is rooted in highlighting the cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples in the Arctic region, and the project plan includes a broad, intercultural Nordic collaboration. The plan consists of gatherings within the field, artist meetings, and a well-developed strategy for future events.
