The new mentorship programme has been initiated by Nordiska Teaterledarrådet in cooperation with the Nordic Culture Fund. The aim of the programme is to strengthen leadership in the performing arts by providing support to theatre leaders who want to develop their current leadership through discussion and exchange of experience with colleagues from other Nordic countries.
The theatre industry is structured in a fairly similar way in the Nordic countries, but there are also differences in managing and operating methods. There is therefore much to learn from each other, and there is generally a need to develop the leadership and management of the Nordic performing arts institutions. Theatre leaders often have a particularly vulnerable role as sole managers of a complex operation, and there is therefore a strong demand for support to grow as leaders in the existing leader role.
Nordic Ambitions – Mentorship programme for theatre leaders in the Nordic countries aims to strengthen leadership in the performing arts through discussion and exchange of experience with Nordic colleagues, strengthen ties between leaders in the Nordic performing arts and contribute to rebuilding Nordic cooperation in the performing arts.
The programme is tailored specifically for leaders with artistic responsibility in the network’s 350 member theatres throughout Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. During the period 2023-2024, the programme will involve approximately 10 mentees who will be paired with an experienced mentor from another Nordic country. The mentorship includes meetings between the mentor pairs and networking seminars. Some content will be made accessible to theatre professionals outside the actual program.
Nordic Ambitions is coordinated by The Association of Finnish Theatres.
Other partners in the mentoring programme are Nordiska Teaterledarrådet, Finlands Teaterchefsförbund, Svensk Scenkonst, Norsk teater- og orkesterforening (NTO), Dansk Teater and the National Theatre of Iceland.
