Artistic freedom is the most important thing we have. In collaboration with UNESCO, we have formed a Nordic alliance to strengthen international cooperation to ensure that artists, cultural operators, researchers and communicators can think, produce and communicate creatively and freely, even when the covid19 pandemic is behind us.
UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It contributes to peace and security by promoting international cooperation in education, science, culture, communication and information. UNESCO promotes the sharing of knowledge and the free flow of ideas in order to advance mutual understanding and a more perfect knowledge of each other’s lives.
The co-operation is both about maintaining freedom of expression in a broad sense in the Nordic context, but it is just as much about ensuring that socially critical voices among artists, cultural operators, researchers and communicators worldwide continue to have the opportunity to express themselves.
In December 2021 the project resulted in the report Critical Voices – UNESCO’s Instruments in Defense of Freedom of Expression of Artists, Journalists and Scientific Researchers, which examines the freedom of expression of artists, journalists and scientists in light of the covid19 pandemic.
