The book “Should I / Should I not” explores current issues concerning artistic freedom, shedding light on the subject from several different perspectives through a wide range of texts. The anthology is the final publication of the think tank a/nordi/c, which in recent years has worked to open the dialogue and knowledge development on new perspectives on art and cultural policy in the Nordic Region.

The Nordic Culture Fund has awarded 51 projects totalling DKK 8,375,000. By the application deadline, on the 15th of February, the Fund had received 236 valid applications.

The third meeting in the series of network meetings Curated Conversations gathers participants from different Nordic countries to discuss new perspectives on art economy. The meeting is organized in collaboration with the Nordic House in Reykjavik, Think Tank a/nordi/c and the Nordic Culture Fund.

The conference will focus on artistic freedom and ensuring diversity of artistic expression on a global scale. As part of the Globus initiative, the Nordic Culture Fund together with IFACCA has gathered and invited a group of artists and cultural actors from 11 countries in the Global South to participate in the conference.

As Director of the Nordic Culture Fund, Maria Mediaas Jørstad will contribute to the further development of the Fund’s forward-looking efforts to strengthen Nordic cultural cooperation. She will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and the secretariat in Copenhagen.

The Music Policy Resilience Lab aims at implementing music policies in remote, rural and isolated communities in different parts of the world. The initiative builds on a previous collaboration between the Nordic Culture Fund and the global research organization Center for Music Ecosystems.

The Nordic Culture Fund’s live music initiative Puls will come to an end in 2023. On 9 March, 47 Nordic concert organisers will gather in the Faroe Islands for the final annual network meeting.

The meeting is organised in connection to the Göteborg Bokmässa in collaboration with Göteborg Bokmässa, Västra Götaland Region, Göteborg City of Literature and the Nordic Culture Fund.

Today it is with great pleasure that we launch the new website of the Nordic Culture Fund. The motivation behind this project has been to present relevant knowledge of the work of the Fund, its current initiatives and the expression of our strategy.

The mentorship programme has been initiated by Nordiska Teaterrådet in co-operation with the Nordic Culture Fund. Nordic Ambitions – Mentorship programme for leaders in Nordic theatre aims to develop the leadership skills of its participants and promotes Nordic networks between theatres.

14 projects have been supported with a total amount of 4.8 million. DKK in the first major application round of the Fund’s Globus programme. By the deadline of 3.10.2022, the Fund had received a total of 227 applications. The aim of the programme is to support artistic and cultural collaborations that could not be developed in the Nordic region alone. The next Globus Call will be announced in spring 2023.

The Nordic Culture Fund has awarded DKK 6.5 million to 37 projects in the last round of Project Funding this year. By the deadline on 3 October, the Fund received 178 valid applications.

On 29 November, the Nordic Culture Fund will participate in a cultural policy summit in Oslo. The meeting will gather actors within cultural policy and the cultural field in the Nordic region to discuss challenges, need and opportunities within the artistic and cultural field.

The second meeting in the series of network meetings ‘curated conversations’ will take place at the Cultural Centre Hanaholmen, Finland 14-15 November. Participants from all Nordic countries will discuss and further develop the topic of artistic freedom.

As part of the Swedish presidency of the Nordic Culture Fund Board between 2022-2023, Gunilla Carlsson has been appointed as new chairperson. Kajsa Ravin will continue as vice-chair.

New report proposes actionable ways to strengthen music ecosystems in remote and small communities. The research project is a part of an ongoing partnership with the Center for Music Ecosystems, Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Nordic Culture Fund’s Globus initiative.

Kajsa Ravin, the Deputy Chair of the Fund’s board moderated a major side event about ‘Culture as a global public good: a human-centered agenda for cultural policies’ on the 29th of September.

The Nordic Culture Fund has joined forces with a number of actors and organizations in new types of partnership projects. The work will provide a flexible framework for developing initiatives that contribute to new knowledge about the arts and culture field and stimulate policy development in specific areas.

At the seminar, current trends in and challenges to artistic freedom were discussed by an international panel of experts. The aim of the conversation was to contribute to a developed and nuanced understanding of artistic freedom and its importance in a changing world.
