As part of the Swedish presidency of the Nordic Culture Fund Board between 2022-2023, Gunilla Carlsson has been appointed as new chairperson. Kajsa Ravin will continue as vice-chair.

New report proposes actionable ways to strengthen music ecosystems in remote and small communities. The research project is a part of an ongoing partnership with the Center for Music Ecosystems, Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Nordic Culture Fund’s Globus initiative.

Kajsa Ravin, the Deputy Chair of the Fund’s board moderated a major side event about ‘Culture as a global public good: a human-centered agenda for cultural policies’ on the 29th of September.

The Nordic Culture Fund has joined forces with a number of actors and organizations in new types of partnership projects. The work will provide a flexible framework for developing initiatives that contribute to new knowledge about the arts and culture field and stimulate policy development in specific areas.

At the seminar, current trends in and challenges to artistic freedom were discussed by an international panel of experts. The aim of the conversation was to contribute to a developed and nuanced understanding of artistic freedom and its importance in a changing world.

How can the Nordic Region adapt cultural life so that people with disabilities have the same opportunities to participate in cultural activities and create art themselves? The Nordic Culture Fund will be discussing these issues at the conference, which is being organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The Fund has updated the criteria for Project Funding. The aim of the funding programme has not been changed, but the criteria and requirements have been adjusted and clarified. The new criteria apply already for your next application.

The Committee has published a joint statement in connection with official negotiations on the Nordic budget for 2023.

In this year’s second round of project funding, the Fund has awarded funding to 37 projects with a total amount of DKK 6.003.000. By the date of the deadline, 2 May, The Fund had received 133 valid applications.

Nordisk Kunstnerråd opfordrer til, at Nordisk Ministerråds kulturbudget genoprettes og styrkes. Nordisk Kunstnerråd består af de nationale kunstnerråd i de nordiske lande – KLYS, BIL, Forum Artis, Dansk Kunstnerråd, Kunstnerettverket og Samisk Kunstnersammenslutning – som tilsammen repræsenterer næsten 100.000 professionelle kunstnere inden for forskellige kunstområder i de nordiske lande.

Globus Call is the newest strand within the Fund’s overall Globus initiative 2020-2024. Applications can be submitted through annual application rounds. The first Call will run from the 6th of June until the 3rd of October 2022.

The Nordic Culture Fund will host a seminar on artistic freedom at this year’s book fair in Gothenburg. The seminar will discuss current tendencies and challenges regarding artistic freedom of expression from both a Nordic and a global perspective.

The annual UN World Press Freedom Day was marked this year by an international conference in Uruguay, where the UNESCO report ‘Critical Voices’, made in collaboration with The Nordic Culture Fund, was presented.

The Nordic Culture Fund will attend two summits on cultural policies in Sweden: Kulturens växtkraft in Stockholm on 26 April and Agenda KULTUR in Örebro on 3 and 4 May. At the conferences, along with politicians, artists and other central actors, the Fund is going to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing cultural politics, as well as investigate questions of sustainability and democracy in the cultural policies of tomorrow.

Strengthening the transnational nature of art and culture has never been more important, but requires also a new and more nuanced approach in an increasingly turbulent and unstable world.

In this year’s first round, the Fund has awarded Project Funding for 45 projects with a total amount of DKK 6,090,000. The Fund received 132 valid applications in the year’s first application round with the deadline 1st of February.
